2G case: Kanimozhi seeks exemption from appearing in court
New Delhi, Feb 29: DMK MP and one of the main accused in the 2G spectrum scam, Kanimozhi has requested Patiala House court to exempt her permanently from making personal appearance during day-to-day trial of the 2G spectrum scam.
Meanwhile, Kanimozhi’s counsel has submitted an application before special CBI judge O.P. Saini, who issued notice to the investigation agency seeking reply by Mar 14.
DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi said that because of daily appearance before the court, she was unable to fulfill personal and professional obligations as a mother and a political leader.
Kani has been accused allowing Kalaignar TV in Chennai to serve as the resting place for Rs 214-crore bribe which was sent former Telecom Minister A Raja by Swan Telecom.

4G Spectrum Auction in 2012, Says
India is all in readiness for holding spectrum auction for 4G, the fourth generation, mobile services and it has been revealed by Kapil Sibal, the Telecom Minister, that the auction will take place by the end of this year.
Along with it, the government is also working towards providing finishing touches to its plans of selling off radio waves used in the 2G services.
In addition, the government will be selling off 2G spectrum which is likely to be vacated sharply by the annulment of licences after the recent verdict released by the Supreme Court.
In his dialogue addressing the India Day function planned by the Telecom Ministry at the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress, the minister said: “By the end of the year, we are actually going to auction 4G (spectrum). That is what our intent is. We have enough spectrums now to share with everybody”.

Tata Teleservices Seeks Review of Supreme Court Ruling on 2G Licenses

Tata Teleservices Ltd. has moved the Supreme Court seeking review of the judgment cancelling its 2G licenses in three circles.
The review petition was filed nearly a month after a two-judge bench of the apex court on February 2 cancelled 122 2G licenses granted to nine telecom companies including Tata Teleservices Ltd. during the tenure of former Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja.
Tata Teleservices earlier contended that it had applied for these licenses more than 18 months before the 2008 licensing process, under a first-come, first-served basis, began

Tata Teleservices Ltd has moved the Supreme Court seeking review of the judgement cancelling its licences for the 2G spectrum in three circles which were alloted during the tenure of former telecom minister A Raja.
The petition seeking review was filed nearly a month after the apex court on February 2 had cancelled 122 2G licences granted to nine telecom companies including Tata Teleservices Ltd, based on the first-come-first served policy for 22 circles.
The company earlier contended that it had applied for these licences more than 18 months before the 2008 licensing process began.
The court had directed that the licences for the radio waves have to be sold through auction.

| India might auction 4G spectrum (fourth generation) by the end of this year, even as deployment of 3G is yet to be completed, a move that might help the country embrace next level of communications technology.
The country is also finalising plans to sell off 2G radio waves, after they are released from defence services and the recent cancellation of 122 new 2G licences by the Supreme Court, telecom minister Kapil Sibal said. “By the end of the year, we are actually going to auction 4G. Feb 29 (Reuters) – India’s telecoms ministry could take at least 400 days to complete an auction of second-generation spectrum, Telecoms Secretary R. Chandrashekhar said, after an order by the country’s highest court to revoke nearly half of the existing licences.
The Supreme Court ruled on Feb. 2 that all 122 telecoms licences awarded in a scandal-tainted 2008 sale be revoked in four months and asked the government to redistribute the licences and radio airwaves through an auction.
