2G: Bail granted to Essar and Loop Promoters, charges framed

New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) Promoters of Essar Group and Loop Telecom were today granted bail by a Delhi court in connection with a case arising out of the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Essar group promoters Ravi Ruia and Anshuman Ruia and Loop Telecom promoters I P Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan, besides Essar group Director (Strategy and Planning) Vikash Saraf were directed by the court to furnish personal bail bond of Rs five lakh each and two sureities of like amount. Special Judge O P Saini also fixed July 26 to commence the trial against them by framing charges of conspiracy to cheat the government. NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: Former telecommunications minister A Raja was on Tuesday granted bail in the 2G spectrum allocation case. He is the last of the 14 individuals charged in the case still in prison.The bail was granted by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge OP Saini. Raja has been in Tihar jail since February last year.

Raja’s counsel told reporters that the judge called Raja towards him and told him: “Your bail application is allowed.”

“The bail application is allowed,” Special CBI Judge O P Saini said.

The court granted bail to the DMK MP on a personal bond of Rs 20 lakh and two sureties of the like amount. The court while granting bail imposed conditions on Raja that he will not visit Tamil Nadu without its prior permission… Continue reading

2G Scam: Ex-telecom secretary Siddharth Behura gets bail

New Delhi, May 9 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to former union telecom secretary Siddharth Behura in connection with the 2G spectrum scam case.

Behura got bail on payment of Rs. 5 lakh as surety and Rs. 10 lakh bond.

Nineteen individuals, including former telecom minister A Raja, and six companies are accused in the case. Fourteen people were arrested.

The 2G spectrum scam involved government officials, who illegally undercharged mobile telephony companies for frequency allocation licenses, which they would use to create 2G subscriptions for cell phones.

The shortfall between the money collected and the money which the law mandated to be collected is estimated to be Rupees 176,645 crore (35.24 billion dollars) as valued by Comptroller and Auditor General of India based on 3G and BWA spectrum auction prices which held in 2010. However the exact loss is disputed.
