Raja gets bail in 2G case, out of jail after 15 months
A Raja, former telecom minister and prime accused in the 2G spectrum scam, got bail from a CBI special court on Tuesday and walked out after 15 months in jail.
Raja emerged from the Tihar Jail to slogan-shouting and bursting of crackers by DMK workers. The 49-year-old MP drove to his Motilal
Nehru Marg home in the capital and was ushered in with an aarti amid the beating of drums and distribution of sweets.
Raja, who was forced to resign as minister in November 2010, was the first accused to be arrested in the 2G scam — India’s biggest corruption case — and the last one to apply for and get bail.

2G scam: CBI says no bail for A. Raja
The CBI on Friday called for former telecom minister A. Raja to be kept behind bars because of his outsized role in the multicrore 2G spectrum scam.
The agency told special CBI judge O.P. Saini on Friday that Raja’s greed and the alleged abuse of his position as a cabinet minister had caused misery to a lot of people.
Raja has been lodged in Tihar Jail since February 2, 2011, when he was arrested for allegedly accepting bribes in return for handing out valuable 2G spectrum to undue firms at a loss to the exchequer. The former minister is the prime accused in the case and all the other 13 accused in the case are out on bail.
Former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura was the last to have been granted bail by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, prompting Raja to move his first application seeking release.

2G spectrum scam: A Raja seeks bail citing parity
A day before his 49th birthday, former telecom minister A. Raja has moved a bail application in a special CBI court after the Supreme Court granted bail to ex-telecom secretary Siddharth Behura in the 2G spectrum case.
Raja has sought bail on grounds of parity.
“Except me, all the other accused have been released on bail,” Raja’s lawyer said before special judge O.P. Saini.
Raja is one of the 19 individuals accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam that has rocked the nation. However, he will have to spend his 49th birthday on Thursday in jail as the court has listed the case for hearing on Friday.
Apart from the 19 individuals, six telecom companies have also been named in the scam.

Delhi High Court issues notice to CBI on 2G accused’s plea
New Delhi, May 7 — The Delhi High Court Monday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the plea of DMK Member of Parliament (MP) Kanimozhi’s close aide and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharath Kumar, seeking quashing of charges framed against him in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
Sharath Kumar moved the high court against the order of the special CBI judge that framed charges against him in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
The CBI had accused Sharath Kumar of taking bribe of Rs.200 crore as “reward for undue favours” shown by former telecom minister A. Raja in the 2G licence allocation to Swan Telecom in connivance of other public servants.

The repeated ‘major mistakes’ in the applications filed by various accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case on Friday irked the special judge who warned them not to play such ‘tricks’ with the court.
Special CBI Judge O P Saini, who is hearing the case on a day-to-day basis, said out of 410 applications being filed by the defence counsel till date in the case, around 200 pleas contained major mistakes.
The judge said this after Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd Director Karim Morani, facing trial in the case and presently on bail, filed application seeking exemption from personal appearance from April 16 to 19 on the ground that he has to attend the upcoming IPL matches on April 15 and 18.
