New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) Former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, facing trial in the 2G spectrum allocation case, today moved a Delhi court for permission to visit his children abroad. On Behura’s plea to visit Hong Kong for a week in June to meet his children, settled there, Special Judge O P Saini sought CBI’s response by May 31. Behura also moved the court for release of his documents, like his driving license and those of his financial investments, seized by the CBI during the probe. The special court would here these applications tomorrow. Behura is facing charges of breach of trust by a public servant and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam. 2G case: court grants A Raja bail

Former telecommunications minister Andimuthu Raja leaves Central Bureau of Investigation headquarters in New Delhi.

A special CBI court today granted bail to former telecom minister A Raja. Raja, who was arrested on February 2, 2011, is facing trial in the 2G spectrum allocation case and was the only accused in jail.

Special CBI judge OP Saini had on May 11 had reserved his order on Raja’s bail plea for

Tuesday after hearing arguments from the CBI and counsel for the DMK MP.

 

Raja has sought bail on the ground of parity with other 13 co-accused who have already secured it from the Supreme Court, Delhi high court and the trial court.

In his bail plea, Raja had said that case against him is “false and fabricated” and “not sustainable in law.”

CBI opposes Raja’s bail plea in 2G case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday opposed in a Delhi court the bail plea of former telecom minister A Raja, arrested for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation case on February 2 last year, saying there is a new allegation that he got Rs. 200 crores as bribe and it is being probed.

“I am strongly opposing the bail plea. This accused (Raja) and other public servants are also involved in other tranche of Rs. 200 crore which they have received as bribe and this was not known earlier and has come up during the investigation,” CBI prosecutor AK Singh told special CBI judge OP Saini.

The court reserved its order on Raja’s bail plea for May 15 after hearing the arguments from Raja’s counsel and that of the CBI.

2G spectrum case: Sidhharth Behura gets bail, A Raja seeks relief too

NEW DELHI: Former telecom minister A Raja, the prime accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case, has sought bail from a Delhi court for the first time since his arrest on February 2 last year.

Raja moved court for bail within an hour of former telecom secretary Sidhharth Behura, who is also facing trial in the scam, was granted bail by the Supreme Court. CBI special judge OP Saini will hear Raja’s bail plea on Friday.

Raja’s legal representatives asked the CBI court to grant him bail on grounds of parity with the other 13 accused who face the same charges but have been released on bail. An application for bail filed by his lawyers said that the case against him is “false and fabricated and not sustainable on law or on facts”.

2G: SC takes up review petitions

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deliberated on a bunch of review petitions filed by various telecom companies, Centre and former Telecom Minister A Raja seeking review of various aspects of its verdict in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

A bench of Justices GS Singhvi and KS Radhakrishnan heard the petitions in chamber and any decision on them was not immediately known.

The apex court had passed a slew of judgements in the scam including the order cancelling the 122 2G spectrum licences granted by Raja and held that first-come-first served (FCFS) policy could not be used for allocation of natural resources.

It had also pulled up the Prime Minister’s Office(PMO) for sitting on the complaint filed against Raja and set a time limit of four months for the government to take a decision on granting sanction to prosecute a… Continue reading
